Biology

Vastenimbi can best be described as living clouds, which is more accurate than some might think. Most living beings utilize electric signals to transmit messages from their brains throughout their bodies. On extremely rare occasions, the electricity in a thunderstorm manages to create a stable electrical circuit within the cloud. This circuit quickly "evolves" to resemble the neuronal pathways present in the brains of many organisms, granting the storm sentience.

For Vastenimbi, however, the term "sentient" is used as loosely as possible. Most Vastenimbi are little more than clouds capable of controlling their own actions. They do not show any signs of logic or reason, instead simply acting on instinct. For Vastenimbi, "instinct" means heavy rains, strong gusts, and firing off lightning and thunder. Every once in a while, though, a more intelligent and benign Vastenimbus may be born.

Due to their light, cloud-like bodies, Vastenimbi are able to float freely and can usually be found well above ground level. Also, their bodies are gaseous, not solid, making them difficult to defeat in combat.

Their intelligence, as limited as it is, has made Vastenimbi very dangerous, as they can specifically target individuals with their attacks. They have also proven that they can manipulate water in more ways than simply releasing rain, and some Vastenimbi have been seen creating weapons out of water and lightning. Most, however, lack enough creativity to do this, instead simply fire crude elemental blasts.

Although they start out large, most Vastenimbi are not able to maintain their original body for long and are forced to confine themselves to a smaller body. However, by drawing on water and dust in the atmosphere, Vastenimbi can quickly surround themselves in a large "cloud shell" that resembles a more traditional thunderstorm. Most Vastenimbi prefer to live in such shells for as long as possible before leaving, although sometimes these shells continue as full-fledged storms even after the Vastenimbus is forced to leave.

There is debate on whether or not Vastenimbus creation is truly a natural event. The fact that Vastenimbi are almost exactly the same on all planets leads some to believe that there may be another, unknown factor involved. Some even go so far as to claim that this unknown variable is being-made, and that Vastenimbi are an artificial race, not a naturally-occurring one.

Recommended uses

Vastenimbus form is not recommended for most circumstances, due primarily to the fear that the Ultimatrix wielder will lose control of the form and give in to its destructive tendencies. That is not to say that the form is not without its benefits; only that the benefits will not likely be worth the risks.

Being living storm clouds, Vastenimbi are able to cause destruction over a wide area. While lightning strikes are the most obvious offensive tactic, thunder can be manipulated into sonic blasts of varying frequencies. Although they lack traditional lungs, Vastenimbi are able to create powerful winds that can uproot trees. Also, heavy rains can be used to put out large-scale wildfires or create floods capable of washing away entire armies. Even in its default, small form, a Vastenimus's various elemental attacks, combined with its gaseous body, make it a very powerful and dangerous opponent.
Quite some time ago, I realized that each of Ben's "10 alien sets" has a form that becomes too risky for Ben to use. First there was Ghostfreak, whose genetic memory threatened to overwrite Ben's personality. Then there was Alien X, whose "split personality" made him all-but unusable. More recently we had Ra'ad/Ampfibian; although probably safe now, Ra'ad originally tried taking over Ben's body (granted, it was under rather unique circumstances).

Running with that theme, I figured that my team could also use an "off-limits" alien. Around that time, I was already toying with a "natural disaster"-themed alien, and so I decided to go with that! I didn't want to create a pure evil race, though, so I gave Stormgate super-powerful instincts instead (with low intelligence, just to make his "destroy stuff" nature all that much harder to resist).

I was originally going to call this alien "Monswarm" (a reference to monsoons), 'cause at the time he was pretty much just a water version of Sandstorm. As I "fleshed" him out, though (:boo:), he began to deviate from the "hive" mold and I had to come up with a new name. I chose "Stormgate" as a reference to floodgates, 'cause using him is like opening a floodgate and letting the waters wash everything away :evillaugh: *cough* Err, sorry about that ^^; Anyways, the one thing that has remained constant is that Stormgate is a personification of the destructive nature of storms.

Anyways, it's been a while since I've made anything in Spore, so I may be a bit rusty ^^; I didn't realize until later that I forgot to give him arms, but I decided to leave it as is. For those of you who haven't played the game, you're limited in how many parts you can put on your creatures, and I spent most of my "allowance" on those fluffballs that make him look like a cloud. Besides, Stormgate has limited shapeshifting powers, so I'm just gonna say that he morphed his arms away ;P (He normally looks like a miniature, gray Huff N. Puff)

And here we have the index of all my "Omnitrix originals." It's been a while since I posted my last alien, so a quick recap (for those of you who care):

*The "File Number" is their "official order." The "Reference ID" (the one that starts with "HP") is the general order I created them in.
*I've divided the list into three sections. First is my "Original 10" (not necessarily the first ten I created), the ones Ben would first have access to if he ever got my aliens. Second are the "locked" aliens, like Cannonbolt and Rath. Third are the "externally acquired" aliens. like Nanomech and the "Andromeda Five."
*I've rearranged the unlockable aliens into the general order I imagine them getting unlocked in, which doesn't match up with their File Numbers. This may be interspersed by the "acquired" aliens, though...

*Links will be added as they're posted
**These are only tentative names. I hope to come up with something more "original" and less "punny" :boo: by the time they're released

P.S. I needed to make room in my "Original 10" for Stormgate, and Ectoplasma is one of my strongest aliens (or at least one of my most versatile), so I kicked him off the starting lineup. Of course, he's also the first to be unlocked, probably just after Stormgate is first dialed...

Now if you'll excuse me, I think I'm gonna go update the Indexes of my other aliens, because I've come up with a lot of new guys since I posted Stonehide (and a lot of aliens since the guy before that! Like I've said before, I've got an overactive imagination... ^^;)

Ben 10 belong to Cartoon Network/Man of Action
Spore belongs to EA/Maxis
Stormgate belongs to me ;P

Hrmmm... I can't help the feeling I'm forgetting something... Oh yeah! This has less to do with Stormgate and more to do with my aliens in general. When I first learned of the Ultimate forms introduced with Ultimate Alien, I thought it was really cool and started giving all my new aliens Ultimate forms. It wasn't until later that I learned that even most of the canonical aliens won't be given Ultimate counterparts. Which, I have to say, is quite a relief: As much as I'd like to give all of my aliens an Ultimate form, I want them to be Ultimates worth having and I simply can't come up with good power-ups for some of these guys ^^;

That being said, I'm probably going to ditch Pepsqueak and Sumo Swiner's Ultimate forms, maybe Stonehide's too, all of which I simply made up on-the-spot. I'm gonna keep Ultimate Paintbomb, though, partly because I'd actually put some thought into it, but also because Paintbomb actually gains new abilities (as opposed to a simple "stat boost"). Oh, and I do have Ultimate forms for some of my older aliens. Maybe someday I'll post updated bios with images of their Ultimate forms, but that's low on my list of priorities ^^; ;P

In case you're wondering, the old aliens I've given Ultimate forms to are: Flashfreeze, The Brick, Molemitts, Ricochet, and Ectoplasma. Combined with Paintbomb and two of my new guys, 8 out of my 26 aliens have Ultimate forms.
